Continuous Wave (CW) Doppler uses two separate piezoelectric crystals — one continuously transmitting and one continuously receiving. Because it is not range-gated, it integrates all velocities along the entire beam path and cannot isolate a specific depth. However, CW Doppler has no upper velocity limit and is the method of choice for measuring high-velocity jets across stenotic valves in echocardiography.
