Endocavitary Transducer

Endocavitary transducers are designed to be inserted into body cavities to place the probe in direct proximity to the organ of interest, eliminating the need to image through the abdominal wall. Transvaginal (endovaginal) probes are used for pelvic and early obstetric imaging. Transrectal probes are used for prostate evaluation. Because the transducer is close to the target, high frequencies (5–10 MHz) can be used, yielding excellent resolution of the uterus, ovaries, and early gestational sac.
