Ring-down artifact (also called comet-tail variant) appears as a continuous bright streak or trail of echoes extending deep from a collection of small gas bubbles or certain crystalline materials. Unlike discrete reverberation lines, ring-down produces a solid, uninterrupted streak. It is characteristically seen posterior to bowel gas, gallbladder cholesterol crystals, and surgical clips, and can help identify the presence of gas in tissues.
