Fetal presentation refers to the part of the fetus that is lowermost in the uterus, closest to the cervix. Cephalic (vertex) presentation — head down — is normal and expected after 36 weeks. Breech presentation (buttocks or feet down) occurs in approximately 3–4% of term pregnancies. Transverse lie and oblique lie are less common. Fetal presentation is routinely assessed in the third trimester and is clinically important for delivery planning. Ultrasound is the most accurate method for confirming presentation when clinical assessment is uncertain.
