Parasternal Long Axis View

The parasternal long axis (PLAX) view is obtained from the left parasternal position, typically the third or fourth intercostal space, with the transducer marker pointing toward the patient’s right shoulder. It displays the left ventricle, interventricular septum, posterior wall, mitral valve, aortic valve, left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT), and proximal ascending aorta in a single long-axis plane. PLAX is used for assessing LV wall motion, mitral and aortic valve morphology, and measuring aortic root dimensions.
