Angioma

An angioma is a benign growth composed of small blood vessels or lymphatic vessels. The most common type encountered in diagnostic ultrasound is the hepatic hemangioma, which is the most frequent benign tumor of the liver. On ultrasound, a typical hemangioma appears as a small, well-defined, hyperechoic (bright) lesion in the liver, though larger ones may have a more complex appearance. Angiomas can also occur in the skin, brain, and other organs, and while they are almost always benign, they occasionally need to be distinguished from malignant tumors using additional imaging or follow-up studies.
