Arcuate uterus

An arcuate uterus is the mildest form of uterine shape variation, characterized by a small indentation in the fundal portion of the endometrial cavity. On ultrasound, particularly three-dimensional ultrasound, the uterus appears mostly normal but has a slight concavity at the top of the endometrial cavity rather than a flat or convex surface. Most reproductive medicine specialists consider an arcuate uterus to be a normal variant rather than a true anomaly, and it generally does not affect fertility or pregnancy outcomes. It is important to distinguish an arcuate uterus from a septate uterus, which has a more significant division of the cavity and can cause recurrent pregnancy loss.
