Biometry

Biometry in obstetric ultrasound refers to the systematic measurement of specific fetal structures to estimate gestational age, calculate estimated fetal weight, and track growth over time. The most commonly measured parameters include the biparietal diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference, and femur length. These measurements are compared to established reference charts to determine whether the fetus is growing appropriately for its age. Biometry is a core component of every second and third trimester obstetric ultrasound and is essential for identifying conditions like fetal growth restriction, macrosomia, and discordant growth in twin pregnancies.
