Gallbladder carcinoma

Gallbladder carcinoma is a malignant tumor arising from the cells lining the gallbladder. It is relatively uncommon but carries a poor prognosis because it is often discovered at an advanced stage. On ultrasound, gallbladder cancer can present in several ways: as a mass that fills and replaces the gallbladder lumen, as focal or diffuse thickening of the gallbladder wall, or as a polypoid mass projecting into the lumen. Associated findings may include gallstones, which are present in the majority of gallbladder cancers, and invasion into the adjacent liver tissue. Any gallbladder polyp larger than 10 millimeters, irregular wall thickening, or a fixed intraluminal mass should raise concern for malignancy.
