Liver biopsy

A liver biopsy involves inserting a needle into the liver to collect a small tissue sample for microscopic examination. It is commonly performed to diagnose or stage liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, or liver masses. Ultrasound plays a crucial role in guiding the biopsy needle in real time, allowing the physician to visualize the needle path and avoid vital structures like blood vessels and the gallbladder. This ultrasound-guided approach significantly improves the safety and accuracy of the procedure. Sonographers assist by identifying the optimal biopsy site and providing continuous imaging during the needle insertion.
