Sonography Term

Sonography

Sonography, also called diagnostic ultrasound or ultrasonography, is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of organs, tissues, blood flow, and developing fetuses inside the body. A transducer emits sound pulses that travel into the body, bounce off internal structures, and return as echoes that the machine converts into images on a screen. Sonography is widely used because it is non-invasive, produces no ionizing radiation (making it safe for pregnant women and children), provides real-time imaging, is relatively inexpensive, and is portable enough for bedside use. It is a primary imaging tool in obstetrics, cardiology, vascular medicine, abdominal imaging, and musculoskeletal evaluation, among many other clinical applications.
