Ovarian Torsion

Medical Condition • Diagnosed with Ultrasound

Clinical Overview

Ovarian torsion is the twisting of the ovary on its ligamentous supports, compromising blood supply and requiring urgent surgical intervention. Doppler ultrasound is the primary diagnostic modality, though the presence of blood flow does not exclude torsion. The classic sonographic finding is an enlarged ovary with peripheral follicles and absent or asymmetric Doppler flow.
