The program has operated since 1991. It runs 18 months, full time, daytime hours, in the general concentration; beginning in August every two years. Graduates receive a certificate from Grady Health System in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Clinical training covers abdomen, obstetrics, and gynecology sonography. Completers are eligible to sit for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation (SPI), OB/GYN, and Abdomen-Extended specialty examinations, which students may sit for before graduation, leading to the RDMS credential.
