Aortic stenosis is the narrowing of the aortic valve orifice, obstructing left ventricular outflow. Echocardiography is the primary diagnostic modality. Doppler-derived aortic valve area (AVA) by the continuity equation, peak and mean gradients, and the dimensionless velocity index (DVI) are the core quantitative metrics. Severe AS is defined as AVA <1.0 cm², mean gradient >40 mmHg, or peak velocity >4 m/s.
