Placenta Previa

Medical Condition • Diagnosed with Ultrasound

Clinical Overview

Placenta previa is the implantation of the placenta over or adjacent to the internal cervical os, and is a leading cause of antepartum hemorrhage. Transvaginal ultrasound is the gold standard for diagnosis, providing more accurate visualization of the placental edge relative to the cervical os than transabdominal imaging. Classified as complete, partial, marginal, or low-lying based on the degree of os coverage.
