Breast fibroadenoma

A fibroadenoma is a solid, benign breast tumor made up of both glandular and connective tissue. It is the most common breast mass in young women, typically occurring between the ages of 15 and 35. On ultrasound, a classic fibroadenoma appears as a well-circumscribed, oval, homogeneous, hypoechoic mass that is oriented parallel to the skin surface, meaning it is wider than it is tall. These features are reassuring for benignity and help distinguish fibroadenomas from more concerning findings. While most fibroadenomas are monitored with follow-up ultrasound, some may be biopsied if they have atypical features or if the patient prefers pathological confirmation.
