Hemangioma

A hemangioma is a benign tumor composed of a mass of blood vessels. In diagnostic ultrasound, the hepatic hemangioma is the most commonly encountered type and is the most prevalent benign liver tumor. The classic ultrasound appearance is a small, well-defined, homogeneously hyperechoic (bright) mass with posterior acoustic enhancement. This appearance is distinctive enough that small, typical hemangiomas can often be diagnosed confidently on ultrasound alone. Hemangiomas also occur in the skin, kidneys, and spine, and infantile hemangiomas, or strawberry birthmarks, are the most common benign tumors of infancy.
