The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) is the independent, non-profit organization that develops and administers the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) in partnership with the Federation of State Medical Boards. Examination: The USMLE is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the US. NBME also develops subject examinations for medical schools and shelf exams used to assess clinical competency.
