The AIUM William J. Fry Memorial Lecture Award recognizes a current or retired AIUM member who has significantly contributed to the scientific progress of medical diagnostic ultrasound in a particular field. The recipient presents a lecture before peers at the AIUM Annual Convention. Established in 1969 by Joseph H. Holmes, MD, the award honors William J. Fry (1916–1968), a physicist whose research advanced diagnostic ultrasound and who served as AIUM president from 1966 until his death.
