The RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) is a CCI credential for cardiac sonographers demonstrating competency in adult echocardiography. The RCS is the CCI equivalent pathway to the ARDMS RDCS (Adult Echo) credential and is accepted by many employers and programs as equivalent proof of cardiac sonography competency. RCS holders perform comprehensive adult transthoracic and stress echocardiographic examinations.
Examination: The RCS examination tests knowledge of cardiac anatomy, hemodynamics, 2D/Doppler echocardiographic interpretation, normal variants, and pathological conditions including valvular disease, cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease, and congenital defects. Prerequisites include documented clinical experience and an approved education pathway.
Distinguished from: ARDMS RDCS (Adult Echo) — parallel credential from different certifying body for the same clinical role
