A-Mode (Amplitude Mode) is the simplest form of ultrasound display. A single ultrasound beam is transmitted into tissue and returning echoes are displayed as vertical spikes along a horizontal time axis. The height of each spike represents the amplitude (strength) of the returning echo. A-Mode is rarely used in modern diagnostic imaging but remains important in ophthalmology for precise axial eye measurements.
