TIRADS

TIRADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System) is a structured reporting framework for thyroid ultrasound developed by the American College of Radiology (ACR). It assigns points based on five sonographic features: composition, echogenicity, shape, margin, and echogenic foci. Total points determine a TIRADS category (TR1–TR5) corresponding to benignity risk and a size-based biopsy threshold. TIRADS standardizes thyroid nodule reporting and helps avoid unnecessary biopsies of benign nodules while ensuring appropriate workup of suspicious ones.
