About This Organization

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is a credentialing organization for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. ARRT offers sonography credentials including the R.T.(S), R.T.(BS), and R.T.(VS) through both primary and post-primary pathways.

Credentials Issued

ARRT sonography credentials include: R.T.(S) (Sonography), R.T.(BS) (Breast Sonography), and R.T.(VS) (Vascular Sonography). ARRT also issues the R.T.(R) in Radiography, which many sonographers hold as a primary credential.

Pathways

ARRT offers a primary pathway for graduates of CAAHEP-accredited sonography programs and a post-primary pathway for technologists who already hold a primary R.T. credential. Renewal requires 24 CE credits biennially and Continuing Qualifications Requirements (CQR) every 10 years.
