Biography

Co-founder of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) and the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Recognized as a sonography pioneer by the Smithsonian Institution. Her 1973 testimony to the US Office of Education helped establish sonography as an official profession. The SDMS Joan P. Baker Pioneer Award is named in her honor.
