Sonography Scholarships

The scholarships offered specifically to sonography students, with amounts and eligibility, from the organizations that award them.

Several professional organizations in sonography offer scholarships to students. Unlike loans, these do not have to be repaid, and most are tied to enrollment in an accredited program. The named programs below come from the awarding organizations directly; amounts and deadlines change each cycle, so each should be confirmed at the source before applying.

SDMS Foundation — Sonography Student Scholarship

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) Foundation awards a $2,500 scholarship, given to two students each year, usable for tuition, books, or fees (SDMS Foundation, 2025–2026). To be eligible, an applicant must be a current SDMS member, be enrolled in a CAAHEP-accredited sonography program in the United States, and submit the FAFSA. The application periods close June 30 and December 31.

Society for Vascular Ultrasound — Anne Jones Scholarships

The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) awards the Anne Jones Educational Scholarships each year: one $2,500 award and three $1,000 awards, $5,500 in total across four students (SVU Foundation, 2025–2026). Applicants must be enrolled in a CAAHEP-accredited program with a vascular concentration, be an SVU student member in good standing, hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

American Society of Echocardiography — Waggoner Student Scholarship

The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) offers the Alan D. Waggoner Student Scholarship Award, focused on students in cardiac and echocardiography programs (ASE). The current amount and deadline are confirmed on the ASE site.

Inteleos Foundation — exam-fee scholarships

The Inteleos Foundation, connected to the organization behind ARDMS, takes a different approach: rather than awarding cash, it pays a student’s certification exam fees directly to the certifying body (Inteleos Foundation, 2025–2026). It is aimed at students and recent graduates of accredited ultrasound programs who are working toward a credential such as the RDMS, RDCS, RVT, or RMSKS, and it selects on financial need and readiness to certify.

Institutional and local scholarships

Beyond these national programs, many colleges and hospital-based programs offer their own internal sonography scholarships, and some — such as the Mayo Clinic’s certificate program — apply institutional scholarships that meaningfully reduce net tuition. A program’s financial-aid office is the place to ask what internal awards exist.

A note on sources: this page names only the awarding organizations and links to their own pages. Aggregator and “scholarship finder” sites that exist to route students toward specific schools are deliberately not used here.
